Good Newwz

Two couples want children and both go for fertility treatment. At the same clinic, on the same day. There is a coincidence: both families have the same surname. Batra. A mix up occurs in the clinic records and the material of the two couples is swapped. The result is that each woman is carrying the other couple's child. The error is noticed later and the doctor explains. There is no going back. The four have to put up with each other for nine months. The couples are nothing alike; one is urban and reserved, the other Punjabi and loud. Raj Mehta directs. Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani are in the cast. The language is Hindi. The film took a strong result at the box office and entered the most watched Hindi productions of its year. Its humour is built on difference of class and region; how the two families speak, their habits and their expectations collide. The narrative does not show the fertility process in detail but takes the subject up openly in mainstream Indian cinema. Its second half turns to melodrama and the register changes. Diljit Dosanjh's sections carry the comic weight. The narrative arrives at a place that does not tie parenthood to biology. Its limit is structure; the premise is strained and some of the jokes crude. Who it is for: viewers who like Indian comedy and family films. Who it is not for: the premise is not convincing, the humour crude, and the last section emotionally forced.
