What Good Riddance Is About

A woman running a small firewood business on her own is carrying three burdens at once: an unstable daughter, a brother with a mental disability and two suitors after her. The girl does not want to share her mother’s attention with anyone, and there is no limit to what she will do to have it; the balance inside the house is set by her jealousy. The film neither finds this relation charming nor passes judgement on it, but shows it as it is. It came to be counted among the most talked about works of Quebec cinema in the eighties. Charlotte Laurier and Marie Tifo appear in Francis Mankiewicz’s hundred and twenty minute Canadian film, completed in 1980.
