Goodbye, Boys!

At the centre of the account are three young men. All three have just finished school. The time is the years of the Second World War. It is summer and they are by the sea. Their days pass swimming in the Black Sea. All three are drawn to the same girl. Then the question of military service comes up. They are asked to become officers. Their families object to it. The young men are afraid of being parted. They think of the navy but things go otherwise. They are steered towards the army. Evgeniy Steblov and Mikhail Kononov take the leads, with Nataliya Bogunova also in the cast, in Mikhail Kalik’s Soviet film of 1966.
