What Goodbye, Someday Is About
Yutaka is transferred to the Bangkok branch of an airline, and in three months he will marry Michiko, a relative of the company’s founder; he does not love her, but he knows the marriage could carry him to the top one day. He is drawn to Touko the moment he meets her in a bar in Thailand, and their relationship only intensifies as the wedding date approaches. In the end he calls Michiko in front of Touko and breaks it off; Touko leaves for New York the next day and Yutaka marries. Twenty five years later a business trip takes him back to the same hotel in Bangkok, where he finds Touko again, and both understand that nothing has moved, though reality pulls them apart once more. John H. Lee adapted the film from a novel by Hitonari Tsuji.
