What Green Border Is About

The forested border strip between Belarus and Poland. To put pressure on Europe, the Lukashenko government promises easy passage to people arriving from the Middle East and Africa and moves them to this line; the Polish side pushes them back. They are left in the marshes between the two. The film draws a Syrian family, a young border guard and an activist who has given up a comfortable life into one story. Agnieszka Holland directed and shot it in black and white. It runs two and a half hours and is hard to watch. In Poland, government figures attacked it before it even opened.
