Green Lantern: Emerald Knights

An animated film from a comic book source. A planet is under siege. The Green Lantern corps is preparing its defence and there are hours before the attack begins. In that time Hal Jordan tells a new member, Arisia, stories from the corps' past. The film is made of those stories. The first is about the first member: who carried the ring billions of years ago. The second is about training; an apprentice does not listen to his master and learns the lesson hard. In the third there is a member who cannot speak and communicates another way. The fourth is about a siege and turns on one person's decision. In the fifth one of the strangest members appears: a being the size of a planet carrying a ring. Between them the preparation for the present battle continues, and in the last section the attack begins. The common subject is fear: in each story someone shows what they did with theirs, and the way the ring works is tied to that. Nathan Fillion, Jason Isaacs, Elisabeth Moss, Henry Rollins and Kelly Hu are among the voices. Lauren Montgomery, Chris Berkeley and Jay Oliva directed. Who it is for: anyone who knows the comic universe and likes collections of short stories. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a single narrative; the film is made of parts and the tie between them is weak.
