Green Tea

Wu Fang is a graduate student in Beijing, shy, bespectacled and easy to overlook, who goes on one arranged date after another without any of them working out. The latest is Chen Mingliang, a man just out of a break up. At the table she talks about a mysterious friend and an unhappy family, and he goes looking for what she describes, meeting someone else entirely, called Lang. Whether the two are the same person is left open to the end, and all the tension of the account comes out of that uncertainty. Christopher Doyle was the cinematographer. Jiang Wen and Zhao Wei appear in Zhang Yuan’s eighty three minute Chinese film, completed in 2003.
