What Grill Point Is About

Four people in Frankfurt, the German town sitting right on the Polish border. Chris presents on a small radio station and his wife Katrin directs cars in a car park. Their friend Uwe runs a snack kiosk and his wife Ellen works behind a perfume counter. All four of their lives stopped moving some time ago. Then Chris and Ellen sleep together, and the balance between the two households goes over in a night. Andreas Dresen improvised the entire film; instead of a script there are situations, and the actors build their own lines. That is why it was made with a tiny crew on digital cameras. It won the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlinale. It shows exactly where middle age got stuck in eastern Germany after reunification, without enlarging any of it.
