Guilty

It comes from the Outreau affair. In 2001, in Outreau in northern France, dozens of people were arrested on accusations of child sexual abuse. Most of the accusations were false and most of the accused were acquitted years later. The film follows what happened to Alain Marécaux, a bailiff: custody, prison, a hunger strike, a family broken up. Nobody listens to him, because the accusation alone is treated as enough. Philippe Torreton plays Marécaux; Vincent Garenq directed. Some of the accused spent close to three years in pre-trial detention. The case led France to question its investigating system.
