What Gun Hill Road Is About
Enrique comes home to the Bronx after three years inside and finds the house rearranged without him. His wife Angela has built a life he was not part of, and his child is somewhere he cannot follow: Michael at home, Vanessa outside, reading poetry at a neighbourhood club. Rashaad Ernesto Green treats none of this as a question to be argued. He films a family in which all three people are afraid of losing the other two, giving the father's grip on his idea of manhood the same patience he gives his daughter's insistence on being herself. Harmony Santana, cast after the director noticed her at a pride parade, became the first openly transgender actress nominated for a major American acting award.
