What Gun-shy Is About
Lukas, a young man delivering meals to people’s homes instead of doing military service, has few friends and a dull life until he meets Isabella. She quickly becomes his closest friend, and then he learns that she is being sexually abused by her stepfather, after which one idea takes hold of him: the way to save her is to kill the man. Dito Tsintsadze’s hundred and five minute German film follows step by step how an isolated young man’s obsession grows out of good intentions, and it refuses to present violence as a solution. Dirk Kurbjuweit and Tsintsadze wrote the screenplay together. Fabian Hinrichs and Lavinia Wilson lead, with Johan Leysen and Christoph Waltz in support, and the film screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2003.
