What Killing the Shadows Is About
Bursa in the fourteenth century. As people fleeing Mongol pressure crowd into the city, Karagoz, a Turkmen nomad, and Hacivat, a postman who never holds his tongue, meet over the sale of a cow. Hacivat notices how naturally funny the man is and sets out to make use of it, and together they start making people laugh and getting themselves into trouble. Ezel Akay turns the legend about how these two shadow-theatre figures died into a coarse, bawdy and deliberately anachronistic comedy. Haluk Bilginer plays Karagoz and the television host Beyazit Ozturk plays Hacivat.
