What Harishchandrachi Factory Is About
In 1913 Dadasaheb Phalke sets out to make Raja Harishchandra, the first full length feature film produced in India. He has neither money nor equipment, so he travels to England to learn how the thing is done, comes back, pulls his own family into the work and builds a studio somewhere between ridicule and suspicion. Paresh Mokashi tells this founding story not as a heavy epic but as a light, cheerful comedy, and it was his own first feature. India submitted it to the Academy Awards for 2009, the second Marathi production to be sent. Note that our Turkish title for it has nothing to do with the film.
