Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg wrote the first film; on the sequel they directed for the first time as well, taking over from Danny Leiner. A Warner Bros. spokesman said this one had originally been produced as a direct to video release; the decision to put it in cinemas came later. It became the first New Line Cinema title released after the studio moved under Warner Bros. Shooting started in the third week of January 2007 in Shreveport, Louisiana and finished that March; the locations included Amsterdam. As soon as it wrapped, Kal Penn began guest teaching courses at the University of Pennsylvania for the spring 2008 semester. Made for $12 million, it opened to $14.9 million from 2,510 theatres and landed second at the box office; the first film had opened seventh, with $5.4 million. The two disc unrated edition carries an option opening alternate scenes and an alternate ending titled Harold and Kumar Go to Amsterdam. A good fit if you are untroubled by Guantanamo and a Ku Klux Klan rally being used as stops on a chase comedy. Not for anyone who would struggle with a film that Amnesty International USA answered by saying Guantanamo is no joke and urging members to hand leaflets out at screenings, to keep the treatment of the camp’s detainees in view.
