What Heaven's Bookstore Is About
Kenta, a young pianist who has just lost his job, is drowning his troubles at a bar when he meets a man in a Hawaiian shirt named Yamaki. The man invites him to come and work with him, and the next thing Kenta knows he is waking in a room he has never been in before. It is a strange room that seems to have no connection with life. Going down a staircase he comes to a place filled with shelves of books. The film does not make this place frightening; it gives it as calm, orderly and worked in. The account does not explain death or tie it to any system of belief. Music forms the story’s second line. Yuko Takeuchi and Tetsuji Tamayama appear in Tetsuo Shinohara’s hundred and eleven minute Japanese film, completed in 2004.
