What Karaoke Terror Is About
One of a group of karaoke loving middle aged women is killed by a young man. The women find him and they kill him. Then the man’s friends go after the women. The violence grows as it passes back and forth between the two sides. The film tells that escalation through black humour rather than realism. The karaoke stage is the common ground both groups share. The account takes no side; it shows revenge feeding itself. The hundred and twelve minutes are given to that back and forth. What starts as one death turns into a war between two groups who barely know each other. Ryuhei Matsuda and Kanako Higuchi appear in Tetsuo Shinohara’s hundred and twelve minute Japanese film, completed in 2003.
