What Jam Films Is About
Seven short films, seven directors, one programme. This 2002 Japanese anthology sets segments by Ryuhei Kitamura, Tetsuo Shinohara, George Iida, Rokuro Mochizuki, Yukihiko Tsutsumi, Isao Yukisada and Shunji Iwai side by side, with the opening titles directed by Daizaburo Hanada. There is no common theme and no framing device holding them together, and none seems to have been wanted: action, comedy, fantasy and quiet drama follow one another, each director doing his own thing. Produced by Sega and Amuse, it is interesting mainly as a cross section, gathering names from the Japanese cinema of the period who had almost nothing in common.
