Heima

A concert documentary shot in Iceland. Sigur Rós come home from a long world tour and decide to play a series of free concerts in their own country. There is almost no announcement; the concerts take place in small towns, abandoned buildings, fishing villages and open country. The film follows that tour. There is no stage; the band play sometimes in a sports hall, sometimes in a farmhouse, sometimes simply on the grass. The audience is a few hundred at times and twenty at others. What the narrative is interested in is the relation between landscape and music. The camera spends a great deal of time outdoors: lava fields, fog, glacial water and wind. There are short conversations in between. The members talk about why they came back, how Iceland has changed and the objections raised to the dam projects. The title says it: heima means at home. Dean DeBlois directed; he later became known for animated films. A calming production for anyone who likes music documentary and landscape photography. For a viewer looking for information, the film does not tell the band's history and consists almost entirely of music.
