Heist

A thief planning to retire is pushed into one last job. The man financing it inserts his own man into the crew. The film's subject is not the robbery but who is playing whom; under every plan there is another. The dialogue is written in David Mamet's clipped, artificial rhythm, so nobody speaks the way people actually speak. That is a choice, not a fault. Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito and Sam Rockwell are in the cast. Mamet wrote and directed. Who it's for: those who enjoy Mamet's artificial speech. Who it's not for: viewers who want to feel close to the characters; the film holds everyone as a chess piece.
