Hellsinki

The middle of the 1960s, Helsinki. Three friends run a small bootlegging operation in their own neighbourhood. In time they scale it up and take over the black-market liquor trade for the whole district. The money comes, the standing comes, and behind them come the police, the rivals and the slow erosion of the trust the three had in each other. Over the years their paths separate; one goes to prison, another goes further still. Aleksi Mäkelä directs, with Samuli Edelmann, Peter Franzén and Jasper Pääkkönen. It is adapted from a novel and runs over two hours. It is a film about the Helsinki of that period, looking back at Finland's own criminal history.
