The Tough Ones

Antti and Jussi come out of prison. They served time for a bank robbery. The third man in that robbery was never charged and is now a policeman. He tries to settle his old friends back into their home region of Ostrobothnia: a proper job, a quiet life. Instead Antti and Jussi go into bootlegging. The bigger the business gets, the further apart the three of them move, and the road turns back towards prison. Aleksi Mäkelä directs, with Samuli Edelmann and Juha Veijonen. It was widely seen in Finland. It belongs to the Finnish cinema of the nineties, and Mäkelä later made Hellsinki. It is about a friendship that ends up on opposite sides of the law.
