What Lights in the Dusk Is About
Koistinen works nights as a security guard in a luxury shopping centre in Helsinki. His colleagues treat him as furniture, he talks to nobody, and his evenings are his own in the worst sense. When a blonde woman called Mirja approaches him, he believes for the first time that somebody has chosen him. She is looking at him as a door for her boyfriend's plan. Kaurismäki plays none of this for pathos, using his usual blank faces and short sentences. The woman at the sausage stand is the only warmth in it.
