What The Saimaa Gesture Is About
The documentary follows a tour that three Finnish rock bands made in 1981. The tour goes round the Saimaa lake system on a steam boat. The bands are Juice Leskinen Slam, Eppu Normaali and Hassisen Kone. The film holds both the songs they play at the gigs and the talk in between. Some of that talk is serious and some of it turns entirely into joking. The boat and the lake hold a place of their own in the account. The work is one the brothers Mika and Aki Kaurismäki made together. The hundred and twenty eight minutes are given to a single tour. This Finnish documentary was completed in 1981.
