Rosso

Giancarlo Rosso is a hired killer from Sicily. A job takes him to Finland. He has a name and an address in his pocket. He lands in Helsinki and buys a weapon. The apartment he walks into is empty. The woman he was sent to kill is a lover from his own past. He learns this only after he gets there. He runs into her brother by accident. The two men share no common language. They set out to look for her together. The search carries them deep into the country. There is very little dialogue. Landscape and silence take over instead. What Rosso will do stays open almost to the end. Mika Kaurismäki has said he made the film in order to learn Italian. Kari Väänänen and Martti Syrjä appear in the seventy six minute film, a Finnish production Kaurismäki finished in 1985.
