After his daughter's wedding, Spyros loads his beehives onto a truck and sets out on the journey he makes every year from the north of Greece to the south. What he is leaving behind this time includes his wife and, in effect, his own life. The relationship that forms with an erratic young woman he picks up on the road does neither of them any good. It is the second film in Theo Angelopoulos's trilogy of silence, and the first in which he worked with an already famous actor: Marcello Mastroianni plays Spyros.
