Brasileirinho

The documentary is about the Brazilian music called choro. Choro is an older style of playing. It lies under a great deal of Brazilian music, samba and bossa nova included. Its origins reach back to the Rio of the nineteenth century. European waltzes and polkas, African rhythms and the sound of indigenous music mixed together there. The film traces that mixture. The line of the account is held by a group called Trio Madeira Brasil. The musicians gather at a private session known as a roda de choro. An idea for a concert comes up there. The preparation for it forms the spine of the film. Musicians from different generations play side by side. The camera shows the rehearsals and what happens offstage. The music comes before the explanation in this film. Hamilton de Holanda and Elza Soares take part in the ninety minute documentary. It is a Brazilian, Finnish and Swiss co-production Mika Kaurismäki finished in 2005.
