In his cell at the military hospital in Chihuahua, Hidalgo begins remembering moments of his life. He recalls in particular his years as parish priest in the town of San Felipe Torres Mochas, where he translated Molière’s Tartuffe and put it on the stage. In the same period he had a relationship with Josefa Quintana, with whom he had three children, and for a short time he left the priesthood. The film draws the known hero of Mexican independence not as a saint but as a man with contradictions of his own. Demian Bichir plays the lead in Antonio Serrano’s hundred and fifteen minute Mexican film, completed in 2010.
