What Hollywood Story Is About
An independent producer decides to make a film about a silent era director who was murdered in his own studio years earlier, in a case that was never solved. The further he digs, the clearer it becomes that somebody would rather he stopped. William Castle's picture takes its cue from a real and still unsolved case, the killing of William Desmond Taylor in 1922. The story is invented; the ground under it is not. Real figures from the silent period appear in the cast: Francis X. Bushman, Betty Blythe, William Farnum and Helen Gibson. Richard Conte plays the producer. Seventy six minutes of Hollywood looking at its own past as noir.
