What The Mark of the Whistler Is About
A drifter sees a newspaper list of dormant bank accounts and, taking advantage of a similarity of names, sets about claiming the money in one of them. It works, but before long he becomes the target of two men who turn out to be the sons of someone imprisoned after a dispute over that very account and who have come to settle their father’s score. The man is now caught between his own identity and the one he has stolen. William Castle’s sixty two minute American film is one of the series that grew out of a radio programme of the same name and follows a typical noir construction. Richard Dix and Janis Carter take the leads, with Porter Hall and Paul Guilfoyle in the cast. It was completed in 1944.
