What Home Is About
A family lives in a house right beside a motorway whose construction was abandoned years ago. Because the asphalt is empty, the road is their garden: the children skate on it, they set a table there, they walk across. Then one day the motorway opens. Noise, exhaust and traffic that never stops come into the house, and the family tries first to adapt, then to protect themselves, then to seal the place completely. Meier's first feature starts funny and slowly becomes suffocating. Huppert never explains the mother's refusal to leave.
