Homo Novus

The year is 1938 and the place is Riga. The city has a lively circle of artists. Juris is a young painter up from the countryside. He is talented and without a penny. He wants to make room for himself in that circle. At the same time Eizens comes back from Paris. What he is after is his rich uncle’s money. His plan appears to be working. Then Ciemalda comes into it. She is a painter too and draws everyone’s attention. Love and rivalry start up among the three of them. The critic Kurcums is part of it as well. Whose talent gets recognised depends on his word. The misunderstandings pile on top of each other. The film was adapted from a novel by Anšlavs Eglītis. Igors Šelegovskis and Kristīne Krūze appear in the hundred and twenty two minute film, a Latvian production Anna Viduleja finished in 2018.
