What Hot Wheels AcceleRacers: The Ultimate Race Is About
Andrew Duncan's 2005 animated film is the final part of the AcceleRacers series tied to the Hot Wheels toy line. Two rival racing teams work together for the first time to save a fellow driver and the power cards from the evil racing drones. The production was openly designed as a promotion for a product and the story is built accordingly: the characters are thin, the motivations simple and every section shows a new vehicle. Against that, the computer animation is ambitious for its time and the sense of speed in the races is good. For anyone who has not watched the series the character relationships never open up. Who it's for: children who follow the Hot Wheels series and anyone who likes racing animation. Who it's not for: adults looking for a story, or anyone troubled by a structure built to sell a product.
