How I Killed a Saint

Viola comes back to Skopje from America. She arrives at her family’s house. The country she left behind has changed. There are soldiers on the streets and everyone is on edge. Her brother Kokan has grown up. He is drifting towards a nationalist circle. He also buys and sells goods on the black market. The story sits in the shadow of the conflict of 2001. That year state forces and the Albanian minority came up against each other. Viola watches all of it from a distance. There is distance between her and her family as well. Things between her and her brother keep tightening. The larger politics is told from inside one house. The lead is played by the director’s sister Labina Mitevska. It took the Tiger award at Rotterdam in 2004. Milan Tocinovski also appears in the eighty two minute film, a Macedonian, Slovenian and French production Teona Strugar Mitevska finished in 2004.
