What How the Toys Saved Christmas Is About
An Italian animation of ninety-two minutes. Its central figure is not Father Christmas but the Befana, the old woman in Italian tradition who brings children presents on the night of 6 January. When the Befana falls ill her assistant Scarafoni takes over the round, but what he intends is to sell the toys to the highest bidder. Only the toys know this. So they escape the shop and set out to reach the children waiting for them. Enzo D'Alò directed, adapting a book by Gianni Rodari. Dario Fo is among the voices. Hand-drawn, sweet and a little sad.
