How the World Is Losing Poets

The inseparable friends Štěpán and Kendy are in their final year of secondary school. Called to the headmaster’s office over an improper song they have written, they are given the idea of putting on a play. The two of them settle on Tyl’s Forest Maiden, but in an unusual form: with music, with singing and with strange props. For Kendy it is an amusement; for Štěpán it is a way of getting closer to Marcela Borůvková. What began as a student joke gets out of hand once the odd cast and the father of one of their classmates land it in the press, and when even television takes an interest in the production, disaster starts to look unavoidable. Dušan Klein’s ninety minute Czech comedy was adapted from a novel; Pavel Kříž and David Matásek appear and it was completed in 1982.
