What How to Avoid Everything Is About
A man in his mid thirties has become expert at putting his life off. He has no proper job, his flat is a mess, he kills time with his friends and decides nothing. Then he falls for the young woman who babysits his sister's child. She is very young and he knows it; that is where the real matter begins. Michiel ten Horn's Dutch film uses the shape of the slacker comedy but does not let the man off. The age difference stands not as material for jokes but as a mirror of his own condition: someone in his thirties choosing a teenager shows where his life has stalled. Gijs Naber takes the lead. The tone is comic, but the film does not feel sorry for him.
