What How to Steal a Dog Is About
Ten-year-old Ji-so lives in a car with her mother and her younger brother. Seeing a five hundred dollar reward on a lost dog poster, she believes that amount is enough to buy a house, and works out a plan to take dogs from wealthy families for a while and then bring them back to collect the reward. The film takes the child’s reasoning seriously and does not hide where the plan is heading. Kim Sung-ho directed and adapted it with Shin Youn-shick from the novel of the same name by Barbara O’Connor. Lee Re plays Ji-so, with Kim Hye-ja, Choi Min-soo, Kang Hye-jung and Lee Chun-hee in the cast. It was shot on Jeju Island in the summer of 2014 and opened on 31 December 2014. The summary text in the record is ungrammatical and puts the family’s homelessness down to the father’s bankruptcy alone.
