What Hunt the Man Down Is About
Bill Jackson, a man who keeps to himself, stops a robbery at the bar where he works, and the newspaper attention that follows reveals him to be Richard Kinkaid, wanted in connection with a murder twelve years earlier. Paul Bennett, the public defender assigned to him, believes he is innocent but has nothing new to work with, and the only route open is to find the seven original witnesses and get them talking again. George Archainbaud directed from a script by DeVallon Scott for RKO, and the seventy-minute picture opened on 26 December 1950. Nicholas Musuraca, one of the defining cameramen of film noir, shot it. It was made cheaply and quickly and still gets into some unexpected corners of the genre. Gig Young plays the lawyer.
