Husband of His Wife

Michał Karcz is a composer. Jadwiga Fołtasiówna is an athlete, a sprinter. The two have just married. The balance in the house does not settle. Jadwiga is known across the country. Michał’s own work falls into the background. The household runs on his wife’s schedule, on training, races and receptions. He finds himself referred to as her husband and little else. The film turns that into comedy. The story comes from a 1959 play by Jerzy Jurandot. The form stays close to the vaudeville tradition of the nineteen thirties. Marek Sart wrote the music. It was Stanisław Bareja’s first film as a director and opened in Warsaw in April 1961. Bronisław Pawlik, Aleksandra Zawieruszanka and Mieczysław Czechowicz appear in the ninety four minute film, a Polish production Stanisław Bareja finished in 1961.
