What Brunet Will Call Is About
Michał Roman is a modest editor. He has packed his wife and children off for the weekend and plans to spend it alone in his house on the edge of Warsaw. Then a fortune teller turns up at his door and tells him that this evening he will kill a dark-haired man. He laughs, and then stops laughing: everyone who comes to the house is dark-haired, the phone will not stop, the neighbours get involved, and the night turns into chaos. Stanisław Bareja directs this Polish comedy, with Krzysztof Kowalewski in the lead. Ninety minutes. Bareja's method is always the same: run an absurd plot on the surface and pack everyday period absurdity underneath it, the queues and the neighbours watching each other.
