I Don't Believe in Anarchy

Egor Letov was a musician from Siberia. The band he founded was called Grazhdanskaya Oborona. The name means civil defence. The documentary covers the band’s early years. The period runs from the start of the eighties to the start of the nineties. The material leans heavily on home video. Photographs are gathered in as well. People who were there speak, among them the musician’s brother Sergey Letov and the men who played in the band. One of the directors, Natalya Chumakova, was Letov’s wife. The core of the film was a forty minute assembly put together in 2009, later built out to feature length. The Siberian punk scene is the ground the story stands on. It opened in Russia on 20 November 2014. Igor Zhevtun and Konstantin Ryabinov also appear in the seventy eight minute film, a Russian production Anna Tsyrlina and Natalya Chumakova finished in 2014.
