What I Went Down Is About

Git is fresh out of prison, and when he saves his former best friend from a beating by loan sharks he ends up in debt to the local crime boss. The man gives him a job: he and another debtor, Bunny, are to go to Cork, find a man named Frank, and hand him over. On the road it becomes clear that Frank has no money and that handing him over may mean his death. Paddy Breathnach's Irish film turns the crime picture into a road comedy: two men in a car, talking constantly, deciding wrongly constantly. Brendan Gleeson and Peter McDonald take the leads; it is one of the films that brought Gleeson to a wide audience. The moral question grows heavier towards the end, but the film never turns solemn.
