Icarus

Crete. Icarus is a boy at the palace; his father Daedalus is the king's engineer. Under the palace Icarus meets a creature with a man's body and a bull's head. His name is Asterion. Everyone calls him a monster; Icarus becomes his friend. Then the king gives his father a secret commission: a structure this creature will never get out of. Icarus works out what is being built. Everyone knows how the story ends; the film tells it from Icarus's side, as someone losing the friend he grew up with. Carlo Vogele directs the animation; seventy-two minutes, a French, Belgian and Luxembourgish co-production. Vogele worked at Pixar before this, his first feature. The film shows the Minotaur not as something to be afraid of but as a child who has been shut away.
