Ico, the Brave Horse

Ico is a wild colt living in the forest with his mother and other animals. When he sees the royal procession he decides he wants to be one of the king’s horses, and he makes friends with Larguirucho, who keeps the stables at the castle. With his help Ico gets in and meets the other horses, and while pursuing this wish he notices something strange: one of the king’s horses mysteriously disappears every night. Manuel García Ferré directed this Argentine animation, which grew out of a television series begun in 1981, from a screenplay by Inés Geldstein. The film was finished in 1983 and was to be shown that year at a children’s film festival in Portugal, but it did not open in Argentina until 9 July 1987. The record gives 1983, which is the year of completion rather than of release.
