What Iftar Soda Is About
An Aegean town in the early seventies. Adem, just out of primary school, does not want an idle summer and takes an apprenticeship with Kemal, the soda pop seller. When Ramadan begins his family will not let him fast because he is too young, so he fasts in secret, and carrying soda in the heat while fasting is not easy. Yuksel Aksu tells a story about childhood, a small town and sharing in a warm, nostalgic register. Cem Yilmaz is not doing comedy here; he plays the soda seller straight, and that is the best thing in it.
