I'm Staying

Doctor Tyrsa is capable, sardonic and a non-believer; he finds the idea that anything happens after death absurd. Then he suffers a serious accident at a bowling alley and is left unconscious. When he wakes he is somewhere else entirely: a dry in-between country where nobody is quite dead and nobody can go back. There are people there waiting like him. Karen Oganesyan's film is a fantastical comedy in mould but sad in tone; there Tyrsa realises the life he left behind was not bad at all and struggles to return to it. Andrey Krasko has the lead and this became one of his last films. Fyodor Bondarchuk and Elena Yakovleva are also in the cast. A hundred and twelve minutes. The story sets death up not as a horror but as a pause that forces a person to look back.
