Vitaly Kishchenko What The Ghost Is About
A novelist who cannot write finds an odd way out of the block: meet an actual hitman, watch him closely, and feed the book from that. The days he spends alongside the man give him the material he was after, and something else is being assembled in those same days, so that he never notices he is being lined up to take the blame for a killing. Karen Oganesyan puts Konstantin Khabensky and Vladimir Mashkov on opposite sides of it, one looking for a story and the other building one. The cold, unhurried tempo of Russian crime cinema is all here. The subject is not really the crime; it is how dangerous it is to turn another person's life into material.
