What In the Shadow of Death Is About
A group of men go out to fish under the ice. The floe they are working on breaks away from the shore. They find themselves in the middle of the sea on a drifting piece of it. As the shore recedes their situation gets worse. Food and warmth run down. The tension between them rises and old scores are opened. The account is set on the Baltic coast in the nineteenth century. The film looks at how people behave in a closed space. Eduards Pavuls and Girts Jakovlevs are also in the cast. Pēteris Šogolovs and Gunārs Cilinskis take the leads in Gunārs Piesis’s Latvian film of 1972.
