Drishyam

Georgekutty runs a cable television business, left school after fourth grade and loves films; he lives in a small town with his wife and two daughters. After something happens to his elder daughter there is a death in the house, and the man builds a plan to protect his family. The materials are entirely what he learned from films: witness statements, confusion over dates, a lie rehearsed into habit. Against him is the police chief, who is the dead boy's mother. Jeethu Joseph shows who did it at the start and builds the tension entirely on how it is concealed. Mohanlal leads. It has been remade in at least six Indian languages and became the most exported story in Malayalam cinema. Who it is for: viewers who like tightly constructed thrillers and family-centred crime. Who it is not for: anyone who will find the film's moral choice disturbing.
