What Innocent Vengeance Is About
Teddy Soeria Atmadja's 2023 Indonesian film follows Adam, an architect whose family was killed in front of him. He has lived with that for two years. His therapist steers him toward forgiveness and Adam chooses revenge instead. The film does not make that decision easy; the narrative shows that revenge does not heal him and that his memory cannot be trusted. Reza Rahadian and Laura Basuki lead. The tone is dark; there is violence, but it is not drawn out. The close is left open. Who it's for: viewers of Indonesian thrillers and narratives of trauma. Who it's not for: viewers for whom scenes of a family being killed would be difficult.
